Al-peggio: Identity, challenges, and prospects of alpine dairy production in the Cheese Valleys

The conference “Al-Peggio”, scheduled for October 25, 2025, as part of FORME, offers a collective reflection on alpeggio — mountain pasture farming — as an identity, cultural, and economic heritage of the Orobie and the Cheese Valleys. The title plays on words to highlight a dual perspective: on one hand, the extraordinary richness of high-altitude production; on the other, the difficulties and critical issues threatening its continuity.

Through a roundtable discussion involving representatives of alpine production consortia, local health authorities (ATS), and the Lombardy Region, topics such as economic and environmental sustainability, food safety, biodiversity protection, and the safeguarding of mountain territories will be addressed.

The meeting aims to foster dialogue between institutions, consortia, and operators to outline shared strategies that enhance alpine dairy production as a distinctive asset of the Cheese Valleys and a strategic resource for Lombardy’s rural, tourism, and gastronomic development.
